Key Elements in Formatting the ezine. Don't use italics, bolding, underlining, or other automatic formatting, since these features may get stripped out when your email is sent. Always send your newsletter in plain ASCII text, since it's compatible with all email readers. You can use *asterisks,* "quotation marks," or ALL CAPS instead to emphasize a word or phrase. USE ALL CAPS SPARINGLY.
If you have more than one section, separate them with underscores, asterisks, or another nifty symbol. If you include any lists, set off each item with bullets or numbers. And if you use subheads, make them benefit-oriented. For example: How to Land A New Client this Week. v The Title
Simple, descriptive and to the point.
Spam Disclaimer
Remind your readers that they asked for your email! In case they don't want to keep receiving your words of wisdom, always direct them to the end of the email for instructions on unsubscribing: "You've received this e-newsletter because you subscribed to it! If you wish to unsubscribe, please scroll to the end for more information."
Table of Contents
A table of contents makes it easy for readers to scroll to the articles they want to read.
Content
Limit yourself to concentrated, highly potent / useful articles. Summarize long articles provide a URL to the full article on your website. Make sure that you provide the entire URL (including all the http:// ), since hyperlinks don't always translate between email programs.
Contact Info
Your newsletter could be forwarded anywhere in the world, so make the most of it! Provide your name, the name of your business, a tagline describing your services, a phone number, an email address, and your website address.
Unsubscribe Info
As a courtesy, provide clear instructions for unsubscribing: "If this newsletter isn't for you, no problem. To UNSUBSCRIBE, just type "unsubscribe" in the subject line, and hit the reply button."
Copyright Notice
Your e-newsletter is automatically copyrighted when you publish it, but it's still a good idea to add a copyright notice at the very end. Although ideas can't be copyrighted, your language can. And of course, never reprint anything from another source without permission.
